Friends,

As you may have heard that the Province of Ontario has entered phase 2 of the re-opening plan for various business and places of worship has also been mentioned. However, all of the Lutheran Churches of the Eastern Synod will remain close until the beginning of September.

I have attached a letter from our Bishop Michael Pryse, which details the reason for this decision.

He writes

"Early last week the Anglican House of Bishops in the Province of Ontario decided that their churches will not re-open for in person worship until September 2020 at the earliest, regardless of where the Government of Ontario is with its reopening plan. This decision was made in consultation with public health experts, with the well-being and safety of parishioners and the communities they serve uppermost in their hearts and minds. I have also clearly heard that our pastors and deacons would welcome a directive of this kind. As such, it is my strong recommendation that our synod’s congregations not contemplate initiating in-person worship experiences within our church buildings until the beginning of September at the earliest."

I believe that this decision is the correct one for us. There will be lots to do to get the churches to a state where we can open safely and not hastily. We still need to be careful and continue to practice safe distancing rules. If we let our guard down, the virus could re-strengthen.

Therefore, we will continue with our practice that we implemented so far: sending prayers and reflection with a homily each week, conduct "live worship" via ZOOM, and phone visits during the week. Our church office will be open on Wednesdays and Fridays from 9 to noon. Basically, our church is open and being so we are asking, if possible, your offerings and prayers for the coming months.

May the blessings of our Lord be with you and strengthen you always.

In addition to the following message from Pastor Ralph, this message just reaches those of you with email. Please let us know at the office if you know of someone wishing a call, especially those isolated, and alone. Office 613-628-1392 Pastor Ralph 613-628-2867.

Just wanted to let you know that I prayed for you this morning and I will continue to pray everyday.

"Almighty God, I pray for all those members in our parish during this time of fear and uncertainty. May you continue to watch over them and assure them that you will always be there. Pour your compassion and love into their hearts. Give them the courage to face the future with hope. All these and more we ask through your Son, Jesus Christ. AMEN

Just as Paul wrote in Hebrews, we are assured that you will be there for us.

"For as Jesus has said, "I will never leave you of forsake you." So we can say with confidence, "The Lord is my helper; I will not be afraid. What can anyone do to me?"

I urge you to check out our website at: www.gracerlutheraneganville.ca for addition prayers and information during our time apart. I am here for you and pray for you.

God Bless,

GREETINGS TO OUR FAMILY OF FAITH,

As coronavirus disease (Covid-19) continues to escalate domestically, so does the requirement that we continue to review and adjust our current practices.

The Province of Ontario has declared a State of Emergency due to the Covid-19 virus. With this information, we feel it is both prudent and responsible that our congregations ( Grace, Augsburg & Bonnechere ) suspend all public worship services and other gatherings effective immediately. This has been sent to people that we know have an email address so if you know of others in our church family please let them know of that church has been cancelled until further notice. The office will continue to remain open Wednesday & Friday 9 AM - 3 PM.

Pastor Ralph remains available to you either by a personal visit or if you wish to contact him by phone. Office - 613-628-1392 Home - 613-628-2867

We will have weekly prayer, and scripture postings on our web page at gracelutheraneganville.ca on a page named Covid-19 emergency.

Would you do two things to help your Pastor, your church family and others?

As Pastoral care visits have been banned, especially to those in institutions; I need your eyes and ears to help me/us “care for” those in our midst. Please take time to phone your family, friends, neighbours, and church family. Your friendly phone call may just cut through feelings of isolation during this time of containment. If you hear a need expressed that I/we could assist with please let me know ASAP. Maybe call 5 different people every day.

Secondly: Take the opportunity each day to pray, read scripture, meditate, sing a song/hymn or even just be still and quiet.
